OTHER SCALES: We will produce decals from our original artwork in other scales on a cost plus 20% basis with a minimum run of 25 sets. A $100 per run deposit is required. We suggest that you purchase the HO scale sets as a starting point for any scale. We cannot accept responsibility for the quality of reproduction or registration of decals smaller than HO scale.
These decals were developed by Bill Darnaby and myself and are probably the highest quality and most complete line of Monon Railroad decals ever offered. They have been thoroughly researched and are made from actual Monon Railroad and EMD painting and lettering diagrams where available. Most sets contain enough lettering to do two or three different pieces of equipment. The necessary dimensional data is included with each set.
The decals were originally intended for our personal use in low volume. However, we felt that they were too good to keep to ourselves. We hope that you are as pleased with them as we are.

501 JOURNAL REPACK DATA/WHITE $10.00 During the era when solid bearings were in use they were regularly inspected and “journal oil” added as needed. When the packing that allowed the oil to wick onto the bearings was changed the date and location were stenciled on each side of the car over the right truck. Before the new stencil could be applied the old one was painted over with what paint was available, typically black and brown. This new paint onto which the repack data stencils were applied lead to some interesting color variations in this area. The Journal Repack Data decal set has over 50 repack stencils copied directly from the sides of actual freight cars. The decal set is arranged in such a way that the repack dates are printed separately from the location data so that any date can be added to any railroad/location stencil. There over 50 dates ranging from 1945 through 1971.
601 STEAM
ERA CROSS BUCK $7.50 The Monon had distinctive cross bucks rotecting their various highway crossings. This 1920’s era
wood cross buck survived into the diesel era at some lesser used
crossings. The decal lettering has two colors as was the practice on
the Monon. The vertical “Monon Route” lettering on the
wood post that held the cross bucks assured everyone as to the
railroad they were crossing.
602 DIESEL ERA CROSS BUCK $7.50 When the Monon dieselized it took on a new image that it was eager to share with the public even as they crossed the railroad by highway. The rather standard two color cross bucks were supported by posts made from old rail. The Monon was identified by a small additional plaque that proclaimed you were crossing “MONON, The Hoosier Line.” Some of these two color wooden cross bucks survived past the 1971 L&N merger and even more of the small plaques survive in private collections.
